Plenary 6: Communicating a Message of Preparedness
Dr. Dennis Mileti & Dr. Linda Bourque will present a comprehensive report on what sociologists find to be the best ways to reach people in the US and beyond. Sampling includes Los Angeles and multiple ethnic backgrounds. This will be the first public presentation of these findings.

The State of the Art for Effective Public Education for Household Preparedness and Mitigation and a Report on the Exact State of Public Readiness in California and southern California

This presentation will: (1) summarize the history of social  science research on public education to increase household preparedness and mitigation, (2) provide a detailed accounting of  the state of public preparedness and mitigation in the State of California in general and in southern California in particular on 42 different specific household preparedness and mitigation actions, and(3)publically report  on,  for the first time,  state-of-the-art findings from the largest research effort ever conducted in the U.S. on how to design public education programs for household readiness that actually result in increased household preparedness and mitigation actions..
